Community
Neighbor to
Neighbor Dialogue
Another important
component of the Human Dignity Program is the Neighbor to Neighbor
Dialogue. The program is designed to improve communication and
understanding among our diverse population by addressing the
following topics through dialogue in a safe environment: respect,
culture, neighborhood and inclusive community. Approximately
10 to 15 community members participate during the four 2-hour
sessions. Facilitators are recruited from the community, and
receive extensive training around the dialogue topics. Each
session is dynamic in the sense that the participants define the
outcomes based on the needs of their own neighborhood/community.

and strategies for engaging multicultural and other diverse groups
in respectful and inclusive ways.
This is a dynamic
program packed with helpful strategies, techniques, tools and
insights. Here is some of what a participant can expect:
- Opportunities
to practice facilitating (and other related skills).

exploration of issues related to facilitating
multicultural/diverse groups.

enhancement in process design and client management.

handling resistance and conflict.
- Helpful

Conflict Resolution
Training
The Conflict
Resolution Training program is designed to examine the different
forms and sources of conflict, and explore strategies and techniques
useful in resolving professional or personal conflicts. The role of
diversity factors in conflict will be addressed throughout the
course. Whether participants come seeking skills to address
conflicts they are involved in, or as intermediaries seeking to
assist others, this program will:
- Explore values
and attitudes about conflict – those handed down through their
families, as well as those adopted through life experiences.
- Assess their
proficiency in remaining objective when confronted with conflict
and examine the implications of this proficiency level when
resolving conflict.
- Consider
cultural and other diversity factors that influence perceptions of
conflict, and develop techniques for effectively resolving
conflicts among diverse people.
- Gain greater
understanding of how personal core values and interests influence
the conflict resolution process.
- Develop skills
in negotiating resolutions that are positive for all parties.

Human Dignity Program
The Human Dignity Program is a joint
effort between the City of Long Beach, City Manager's Office and
CCEJ. The goal of the program is to create a community in
which "all people are treated with courtesy and respect, regardless
of their racial background, their national origin, the religion they
practice, their sexual orientation, gender or ability status."
Hate Crime
Response Team
As part of the Human
Dignity Program with The City of Long Beach, the Hate Crime Response
Team is comprised of sixteen community volunteers trained to respond
to the needs of victims of hate incidents/crimes by providing
support and referrals of local resources. It is also the duty
of the team to convey to the victim that crimes of this nature will
not be tolerated within The City of Long Beach. The Human
Dignity Coordinator deploys the team for The City of Long Beach.
Conflict
Resolution Team
The Conflict Resolution
Team is called on in case of an occasional conflict between
residents in the Long Beach area.
