"Talking in Class" On-Campus Dialogue
Diverse groups of 30 middle or high school students spend one day a week for three consecutive weeks in conversation, face to face, about race, ethnicity, culture and values. Students build communication and leadership skills as they develop understanding and relationships with people different from themselves. The project goals are to increase individual: self-esteem, cultural/racial pride, understanding and respect for other races; intentions to change race-related and other behaviors, and to identify an action plan for improving and maintaining an inclusive, multicultural school community.
